Synthesizing information is probably one of the most important skills one may learn on their path of learning. I feel as though most students in schooling struggle to synthesize and that is the same reason they struggle with gaining new information. Instead of synthesizing and forming connections from old materials to new ones, these types of students simply memorize. Memorization is not bad of course, in fact, it is deeply valued by most. However, memorizing over synthesizing leads to a lack of actual knowledge in a subject, and therefore is harder to apply the knowledge.
The best method of nurturing synthesization skills is through research. This wouldn't mean writing full academic papers every time one has an inquiry. Instead, it means questioning the world around us and searching for the answer to understand the true nature of the world. That's what I got the chance to do as I researched the topic of Gas turbines this past week. You can check it out on Works >> Research >> Assessment 16.
Researching this topic required me to revisit the engine and its components that I had researched before. From doing so, and synthesizing so easily, one not only has greater knowledge of a topic but also becomes more curious about how the world works. That's my lesson to you all today my friends, synthesize. Have a lovely day, synthesizers!
