Insights with Mr. Bjorn Borgers

My interview with Bjorn Borgers can easily be my best research interview yet! Not only did I grow exponentially in knowledge, but also in passion. For some exposition, Mr. Borgers graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in mechanical engineering. In the following years, he worked in manufacturing mills for several years before working with Rolls-Royce, the commercial aircraft engine manufacturing company. Later, Mr. Borgers found his calling in product engineering. Specifically, Mr. Borgers works as a product manager and designer at FOX Factory, working on bicycle products.

With such depthful experiences, Mr. Borgers readily answered all of my questions, one of which asked for the most essential skills in his workplace. Interestingly, Mr. Bjorn highlighted the skill of drawing, especially in the brainstorming process. Since a lot of brainstorming and conveying images is through sketches, perfecting a way to concretize an idea is vital as an engineer. Another important skill was to be able to step back and view the larger picture. This was particularly helpful advice for me, someone who tends to hyperfixate on details and perfect small problems. Another tidbit of advice was to remain organized. This means keeping track of thoughts and ideas at the end of every day. Mr. Borgers suggested keeping a daily log where we simply brain vomit our thoughts from the day just as a reference to our works. I plan to follow these essential pieces of advice in my future work.
