Have you ever simply pitched your life goals to a stranger?
How about multiple strangers at the same time?
The students of the ISM program did exactly that at our school's research showcase taking place last week. If I could describe my experience in one word, I would name it reflective.
Summing every action and accomplishment I've made within the past 6 months required deep reflection. Therefore, in preparation for the showcase, I noted key takeaways I've made in my research which required contemplation. I settled on three points: computer-aided design, an engine's method of function, and my original work.
The importance of reflecting on what I've specialized in my learning is to concentrate future learning in those areas. I've touched on the issue of there being so many topics within the field of mechanical engineering that it is difficult to grasp it all. And to combat that, this reflective quality is vital. By pinpointing what I've comprehended within everything I've done, I will ensure that there won't be any "going back to square one"s or "I don't know that one". Instead, I will be secure to move forward and learn more without limitations of knowledge.
